The fine art of fine tuning.
Shelley Davidson being an innovative benchrest shooter has developed several loading, and shooting aids during his
many years of benchrest competition. During a lull in shooting, as it often happens, Shelley started talking of
the possibility of applying a tuning weight to a barrel. The idea being to precisely position a weight to control
the vibration occurring during shooting. Shelley threw out the idea on benchrest.com and found support from Esten Spears,
a retired Vibration Engineer, and Varmint Al, an engineer using specialized software to model various shooting problems.
Esten Spears had built a version of a tuner that is very similar to Shelley's final design. After comparing notes
and supplying Varmint Al with a rifle profile Al modeled a benchrest rifle with Esten's tuner and found that it would
indeed allow for tuning the barrel's vibration so as to assure that the bullet leaves the muzzle at the same position
relative to vibration on each shot. Shelley, being friends with Butch Lambert of "Shadetree Engineering & Accuracy"
offered S.E.&A. the opportunity to produce and market Shelley's Barrel Tuner.
